SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2021 | 7A AWARDS from page 1A Both were able to give speeches thanking the com- munity for the honor and talking about the decisions that keep them uplifting others and giving back. In the State of the Cham- ber, Hannigan spoke about Zoom meetings, being at the table at important meet- ings and reaching out to Florence area businesses to connect them to important resources. “We have revitalized ex- isting and developed new relationships with fellow stakeholders including the city, county and state, along with our tourism partners. These relationships shared moments of hopelessness and frustration along with the joys of achievement. We worked together to lift one another up with encourage- ment, compassion and a few Kleenex,” she said. Her presentation con- tinued, “We developed COVID-safe events to pro- mote shopping locally and to capture as many tourism dollars as we could. As a point of reference, our lodg- ing tax revenues were up over 15% from pre-COVID. Those visitors came and re- newed their passion for the coast and spent their hard- earned dollars here which helped our community stay strong even in an econom- ic disaster. Our community survived and thrived, and we’ll hear some of those sto- ries tonight.” Those stories were re- vealed as members of the chamber board presented the nominees and winners in the following categories. The nominees for Grace Under Fire (Customer Ser- vice) were: Banner Bank, City of Florence Staff, Dar- lings Marina & RV Resort and Off Bay Street Bistro. The award went to Darling’s Marina & RV Resort. The nominees for Piv- ot Forward (Adaptability) were: Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate, City Lights Cinemas, Florence Farm- er’s Market, Oregon RAIN and the Siuslaw News.
